So I finally decided to make a game…

Yes, I finally found the motivation to start work on my own full-featured PC game. I have a basic story idea (which I’m not going to disclose here yet), some ideas on how to realize that and a lot of interest in this subject. Whether or not I actually finish what I started will remain to be seen, but I hope this blog will help me keep my usually quick-fading focus on this project. I will be learning many new techniques as I go along, so please bare with me (that is, if anyone actually reads this) and let me know, if you have any suggestions or comments.

Initial tools I chose to use:

This list is bound to grow as I make progress on the development. I should also mention, that I already have years of programming experience, so C# and .NET are nothing new to me. However, I’ve got very little experience in  3D (only a bit from fooling around with Ogre3D), so I’m going to have to learn to use DirectX on the go.

Yesterday was day 1 of development. As I’ve only started learning the DirectX API, I only managed to create a window with a lovely RGB triforce, rotating clockwise around its center. Nevertheless, I was pretty happy with the effort – for now, DirectX seems easier than I first expected. A big thanks to Riemer Grootjans, whose DirectX Tutorial using C# I am following.

Here’s a nice little screenshot of my first window:
